The XP 47B was intended for long range escort missions for bombers directed into German airspace. It had a 2,000 hp R 2800 radial engine, supercharger, and eight 12. 7 mm machine guns. This prototype evolved into the P 47D Thunderbolt fighter bomber with the improved
