I have found a few examples of Native American baskets woven of horse hair (Tohono O'odham and Koasati ((Couchatta)) examples specifically) but the braided construction of this one is of a different sort

executed in red

and maybe 1930-40s

2 7/8" x 2 3/8" and in good condition

This one, dated 1892, is I believe the first I've seen that actually included the sentence "Children should be seen and not heard."
