Early 19th century I believe, and the paint is oil rather than watercolor, giving the surface of that wonderful apple and its finely serrated leaves (I thought at first maybe actual leaves that had been pressed down, but I do believe painted) a marvelous sheen. I did a search for Turn of the Lane apples and can find not even a reference a long lost variety,
