The roof is hinged and opens up, should one wish to animate it but situating a figure or two inside, looking out the windows. I found it in Maine but might guess it originated in or near Buffalo, NY, though as the Buffalo Pittsburg railroad runs between the two, I suppose it might have be made anywhere along the
