but I think their sense of color was pretty fantastic

looking prosperous and ambitious and perhaps a little smug too in his jacket and bow tie and slightly doubled chin

and itself casting an excellent shadow

Perhaps she was once inset into the lid of a patch or bonbon box, I'm not certain. Hand colored woodcut, under glass, with gilded paper border. c. 1830s. 2 3 4" x 1 3 4". Tear to to paper as evident from upper right diagonal, and general wear but stable and sound and I think very lovely.
