I have found one other out there done in a very similar manner listed at $1800 and described as dating to the 1700’s
I would guess it dates to the late 19th century or very early 20th century
though also nice to enjoy like a secret surprise in their original context
Wonderful Antique Handpainted Treen Pencil Shaped Pencil Box (With Early Pencil, As Found) victorian hand though there are examples ofI love an old pencil box and really love this one, 19th century I believe, found in Maine and with a very old pencil found inside of it. This is much better in hand, with the paint decorated body of the turned wooden pencil box just gorgeous, a swirly mix of white and blue and brown, and some gold paint gilding still hanging on to the end cap.
