Function is determined by sliding snib on forend: UP position = automatic deadlocking. Opened by a key from either side, or by a thumbturn from inside. MIDDLE position = lock is latched and operates also with handles. DOWN position = latchbolt is retained inside the lock case. Sliding snib is released only when turning the key (or thumbturn).
