'Portrait of a Stone Indian' water pump This painting forms part ofFranklin's party encountered the Stone Indian tribe in January 1820, on their journey from Hudson Bay to the Great Slave Lake. John Franklin's expedition of 1819 22 travelled via the Coppermine River to map the Canadian Arctic coast, as part of efforts to find the fabled North West Passage.
