and as I understand it represents a humorous variation on the popular loving cups of the time

Calligraphic Black and Red Ink Good Luck Bird Drawing document holder indigenous to the Caribbean andI think we all could use a bird angel delivering good luck, and what a charmer this one is, drawn in red and black ink by an E. F. Rogers, late 19th c. or so I believe. While clearly informed by Spencerian calligraphy, I really like how the decorative marks and especially the crest on this bird make it feel much more folky than formal. A perfect gift for someone embarking on a new flight of sorts, though also a nice one to greet each morning, perhaps
