There is outstanding concentration and muscle to the punchy medium weight plus flavors that conclude in a beautifully long and notably firm finish of focused power and seriously good depth

On the plus side the exceptionally rich and concentrated broad-shouldered flavors possess outstanding amounts of dry extract that impart a velvety texture to the plush finish that is slightly sweet due to the generous wood treatment

The palate is very well balanced with fine grain tannins

It also shows a slightly roasted quality it has always had that is a hallmark of this warm vintage. Sweet red cherry, smoke, leather and tobacco add shades of nuance throughout. Although not likely to be a long term ager by Giacosa standards, the 2000 is quite enjoyable tonight. Antonio Galloni
