Her mother had been rescued from severe neglect while heavily pregnant and in poor health. When Saffron was born, complications during delivery left the newborn foal in critical condition and in urgent need of specialized medical care. Saffron requires round the clock treatment, including plasma transfusions, IV support, medications, and specialized neonatal care.
