Sir Henry Bessemer, inventor and engineer AstroTurf 20th November 1980Sir Henry Bessemer, inventor and engineer, 1881. Bessemer (1813 1898) was a prolific inventor, but is best known for discovering the Bessemer Process for manufacturing steel, which made the cheap production of steel in bulk possible for the first time.
