I found another of a very similar animal form in a very similar manner described as a fox (image included in photos)--that one 19th century and described as carved by a shaman for a hunter to carry as as a sort of amulet or charm
which lends itself to the display of a couple of small sprigs or something significantly more dramatic
or for scooping salt
Antique Erzgebirge Houses and Churches - Set of Eight crossing signs England artist William Burgess (1805–1861)--I never can resist German Erzgebirge houses when they are nice old ones like this with great color and lots of little windows. I believe these eight are a mixed set, half c. 1890s or so, and half, with the more detailed windows, c. 1910. I love them together though, and think I may like them best treated like little blocks and stacked up on end! To my eye such satisfying little things.
