In Auto mode, the camera operates as a shutter priority semiautomatic, but that's all you need the battery for: if you don't care about metering, you never need to worry about feeding this camera batteries. Cosmetic condition is very good, with the exception of a pretty notable dent in one rear corner. There's no effect on
