The Bottle Sowerby Church of St Stephen'The Bottle', 1847; showing an interior domestic scene with the husband and wife fighting due to the effects of excessive drinking. The children are trying to restrain their father. The house is almost completely devoid of furniture apart from an overturned table and chair. The 'bottle' and a glass are ever present on the mantelshelf.
