Horsley was created Bishop of St Asaph in 1802 and the painting must have been commissioned close to that date, probably to commemorate Horsley's inauguration. Samuel Horsley was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1767. Original: watercolour on ivory. ca. 1803
