Charles I Product:Canvas The silver-gilt mace was aCharles I, King of Great Britain and Ireland from 1625, (1932). Charles I (1600 1649) succeeded his father James I as King in 1625. His reign was dominated by a bitter dispute with Parliament over the extent of royal power, which culminated in 1642 in the English Civil War, and Charles' eventual execution for treason.
