Netherlands, Kingdom. A Metal Cross for Volunteers 1830-1831 (Hasselt Cross) Archive a very nice matching pair(Het Metalen Kruis). Instituted in 1831. In bronze gilt, inscribed "VRIJWILLIG" (Voluntarily) above the "W" monogram on the obverse identifying it as the volunteer's version, measuring 29. 5 mm (w) x 34. 3 mm (h) inclusive of its laterally pierced ball suspension, scattered gilt wear evident on the reverse, contact marks overall, without ribbon, very fine. Footnote: The Metal Cross was established by Royal Decree and instituted on September 12, 1831.
