It is not known how it was held together, so there are numerous alternatives. We went with the brass button option which results in a stylish fit. There are theories that the garment could have been a sleeveless waistcoat, but since there are no other evidence of such garments before the 1500s, we've chosen to go with the more plausible theory with sleeves.
