They were sent by Bau Pionier Ersatz und Ausbildungs Bataillon (construction sapper replacement and training battalion) 28, both dated to Schieratz Wartheland (present day Sieradz, central Poland). The first note was accompanying the Eastern Front Medal, dated to 20 December 1943 (with typo 1934). The second note was accompanying the Demjansk Shield
