Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with sword clasp, the obverse with a leftward facing profile of Wilhelm Ernst circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with a central inscription of DEM VERDIENSTE 1914 inside of an oak leaf wreath, unmarked, measuring 36. 19 mm in diameter, the sword clasp measuring 43. 36 mm (w) x 18. 17 mm
