Sir Herbert Austin in an Austin Seven Basingstoke 9th September 1977Sir Herbert Austin in an Austin Seven, 1922. In the 1920s the Austin Seven was launched, popularly known as the baby Austin, which greatly influenced British and European light car design. Austin was founder of the Austin Motor Company in 1905. By 1914 Austin was producing a thousand cars a year.
