James J Braddock, Irish-American boxer Basilica of St. Anne de Beaupre 1936 and was succeeded byJames J Braddock, Irish American boxer, 1938. Braddock (1905 1974) shocked the boxing world when he defeated World Heavyweight Champion Max Baer on points in 1935. He was regarded as a journeyman fighter and an easy opponent for Baer, who hardly bothered to train for the fight.
